Kurbads runs in Riga’s marathon

On May 17th, despite rain and low air temperatures, a huge crowd of active lifestyle supporters gathered between Stone and Vanšu bridges to test themselves in various distances in a marathon organised by Lattelecom. Some chose to run alone, others decided to run in teams. That is what vehicle transport and logistics company „Kurbads” did.

This was the 25th anniversary of Riga marathon. And it was an excellent opportunity to show the company’s team spirit and eagerness for outdoor sports activities.

Nauris Avotiņš, a driver in „Kurbads” company, ran the half marathon distance (21 km) and is more than happy: „I really enjoy running. This was my first serious experience running on asphalt track, usually i prefer running in woods. In the middle of the race my ankle got a bit sore. But in general the run was very fun and i did not have any major problems running the distance.”

Nauris had an excellent result – 2:19:22.

In the 10 km distance for men „Kurbads” had three runners – logistics manager Jurģis Ansfelds, Kristaps Rukmanis and head of household Edgars Krievāns, who was the leader in „The Strong Race 2015” two weeks ago. Edgars had the best result finishing the 10 km in 45 minutes and two seconds. „I am very satisfied with my job today – i showed maximum effort and it paid off. The hardest part was around eighth kilometre, when i could not speed up my pace. Until that moment i steadily accelerated. My reserves were done by that moment. But still i set a new personal best for me. It was great that the weather was cloudy, but the rain was not so good.”

In the five kilometre race „Kurbads” was represented by two ladies – logistics manager Anna Kamradze and head of human resources Laura Keraite. Both of them had a lot of fun and enjoyed the race. Besides that they achieved great results and crossed the finish line together as a single unit.

Laura Keraite: „The toughest part for me was to pass the slower runners, most of them suddenly halted to a full stop. So i had to run carefully. At one moment Anna was ahead, then i got past her, then she caught up again. And we decided to finish together. The weather was fine – the rain showers were right after the finish.”

25931 runners from 69 countries participated in the largest Latvia’s marathon. Mediocre rain and 8C was no problem for our guests from Ethiopia who set new track records. Men’s race was won by Haile Tolossa Bekuma (2:12:28,390) but women’s by Eshetu Deme Meseret who 42,195 long distance covered in 2:37:03,280.
